NPR - November 11, 2010
Portia DeGeneres (formerly Portia de Rossi) spoke to Ryan Seacrest on his radio show yesterday, and after a searching discussion about her book, Unbearable Lightness, and about eating disorders, he asked her about ... Dancing With The Stars.
You can hear the interview here. Seacrest tells her that the producers of Dancing want to add a same-sex couple next season, and tells her that she's on their wish list. He seems to assume she'll have no interest in doing it, but she ... declines to decline, as it were, and says she'd at least consider it.
While the U.S. version of the show has never had a same-sex couple, the Israeli version has: sportscaster Gili Shem-Tov and her professional partner, Dorit Milman. You can see them dance here.
DeGeneres does seems like the kind of celebrity producers might choose for this situation. She's ridiculously beautiful, she's happily and publicly married to a woman, she's famous but not too famous ... whether or not it's plausible that she's going to do it, it certainly seems plausible that they might want her to do it.
