Read the Bureau of Labor Statistics, "Real Earnings in July 2004" and the U.S. Census Bureau, "Current Population Reports, P60-226, Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2003" available from the U.S. Government Printing Office for yourself if you're skeptical.
