Bank on These Firms to Pitch the Moneyball - Yahoo! Finance

City National(CYN)

Based in Los Angeles, City National is a regional bank with more than $21 billion in assets, catering to individuals with $1 million or more in assets and small to midsize companies with annual revenue of $5 million to $250 million. The bank offers traditional lending and deposit products, combined with wealth-management, brokerage, international banking, and trust services. We think City National's cost structure sets it apart from peers. The bank benefits from very low funding costs driven by an exceptionally high level of non-interest-bearing deposits. Operating expenses also tend to be below the levels reported by peers due to an efficient branch network and a lean asset management business. We were disenchanted by the performance of the bank's construction loan book during the recent crisis. However, quick action by management mitigated the risks and enabled City National to take advantage of the dislocation in its footprint by growing market share organically and through several FDIC-assisted transactions. We expect City National to produce more deals of that sort in the coming years.

Did the Republican Party Become the Antidisestablishmenatry Party?

"His choice to inject college attendance into the debate could have an impact, as well. "He’s trying to link one form of animus, anti-establishmentism, with another, anti-intellectualism," said Lim, the political scientist. "The former are institutions, the latter are the individuals who fill the institutions... It works if you’re able to use the anti-intellectualism to pivot to a larger case that the Republican Party is trying to make to the base."
