Veteran Officer Pleads Guilty to Stealing Heroin
VISTA (CNS) - A veteran Carlsbad police detective who admitted stealing heroin from the department's property impound room is scheduled to be sentenced in a Vista courtroom Wednesday.
Michael C. Koch, 44, pleaded guilty last month to a felony charge of second-degree burglary. A judge is expected to place him on probation. A statement released by the Carlsbad Police Department after Koch's Jan.
19 arrest said "numerous" police employees witnessed the drug thefts. Police Chief Gary Morrison expressed "tremendous disappointment" and placed Koch on paid administrative leave, pending the results of an internal investigation. The defendant is an 18-year veteran of the Carlsbad Police Department.
