At the end of February 2008 I recieved a notice in the mail that my home owners insurance with AIG was about to be cancelled due to nonpayment. Makes sense if you don't pay the bill, but the problem was that I never opened the account. They had no signatures of my husband or I and said it had been opened over the internet.

I told them it was ridiculous and that I, nor my husband ever opened this account. They said that they would close the account and be gracious to waive all fees to do so (for an account I didn't open) as if they were doing me a favor. I asked them to send me a letter stating that this account had been improperly opened. They refused stating that they had no such formatted letter. They told me the account was closed and that there should be no more problems.

Then I get a letter stating that there has been a payment made to the account 2 weeks after I had spoken to AIG. I didn't make the payment and couldn't figure out what was going on, so frantically called them again about the fraudulent account and to find out how they got my money.

Representative I first spoke to said that I had opened the account and made a payment and talked to me as if I were crazy. Then she got tired of me telling her there was a problem, so she told me "woman, just shut the F*** up" and she hung up the phone on me.

I of course called right back and this time demaded a supervisor. Supervisor on phone said he would look into what she said and into the money. Siad that even if you close an account, the accounting department doesn't know that and will still take your money. But we still don't know where it came from.

Finally, after a lot of searching, I figured out where they got the money from. They solicited for it from my mortgage company, without permission. Called to tell them this and was told they would send back my money immediatly. And there was no harm done and no problem. Said that by sending it back then they had done nothing wrong and wasn't entitled to an apology. Asked repeatedly for them to send me something in writting in case this issue comes up again but was told "no they will not send anything".

Now come to find out they took money that should have gone to the real insurance company beacuse they replaced the true insurance company with their information, so I have to jump through more hoops to get things put back to the way they were when we closed on the house only 5 months ago. No hassel and no problem. Not exactly true AIG.

My solution to their crookedness is to inform and alert as many people as possible to this companies behavior and actions and to hopefully cost them future business. After all, i'm just a normal every day person who got a quote 2 1/2 months prior to them opening an account. Beware getting a quote from this or this may be you in a few months.

P.S. There quote was almost double everyone else I asked (7 companies total) so don't waste your time with them.
